More late records: Red admirals in Wrenthorpe

November red admiral, Wrenthorpe

November red admiral, Wrenthorpe (Roger Gaynor)

The mild weather continues to produce some unusual records for the time of year; Roger Gaynor sent in another November record of red admirals in his Wrenthorpe garden.
“As reported at the November meeting, there was two Red Admirals in my garden on 12th November and another, probably a different individual, visited the garden today (13.11.2013), which is quite late to see butterfies flying around.  One both days they have been feeding on a buddleia x weyeriana.  It flowers mid summer to late autumn and is a good addition to the usual Buddleia davidii in the garden as it is fully hardy and, even today, is still producing new flowers.  However, looking at the weather forecast today’s record may well be last this year!”
