May 14th – Carlton Marsh
Spring birds and flowers (SE378103)
Meet 10.30am in the reserve car park off Shaw Lane, Carlton S71 3HL.
This lesser known Barnsley nature reserve has undergone some extensive management and is well worth a look. Wintering bittern area speciality but when we visit, we will be looking out for newly arrived spring migrant birds and hopefully some botanical interest too.
June 11th – Gypsy Marsh
Meet 10.30 a.m in car park at RSPB Old Moor.
A small reserve close to it’s larger cousin but more noted for orchids and dingy skippers. The first foray for us to this reserve but potentially could be rewarding. .
July 9th – Potteric Carr YWT Reserve
Meet 10.30am at the reserve carpark.
A visit to the YWT flagship reserve is never going to be disappointing. Could be a good chance of marsh harrier as well as flowers and insects (mosquito repellent may be advisable!)
August 13th – Nostell Priory
Meet 10.00 a.m. at the main car park just off Doncaster Road. Now a firm favourite with several of our members, there should be a good selection of insects and late meadow flowers to look at. If nothing else, scones and a coffee will definitely be on the agenda for certain WNS members!.
